The Society of Hickory Golfers has approved the recommendation of the U.S. Hickory Open Committee to hold the 2027 USHO at the Pine Lakes CC in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Dates are scheduled for Sept. 18-20. Pine Lakes was opened in 1927 and was the first course in this golf-rich area of the Carolinas. Architect Robert White was one of the founding members of the American Society of Golf Course Architects (1947).

The USHO generally follows a geographical rotation so that members throughout the U.S., and abroad, may find an opportunity to play in the Society’s premier annual event.

“It will be a wonderful experience for our members,” said Dave Brown, chairman of the USHO Committee. “Several of us visited the course early this June, along with Andy Moye, the chairman of the 2027 host USHO committee and current captain of the Carolina Hickory Golf Association. All of us agreed the course will play fair and great for hickory golf. It’s in terrific shape.”

Our members should know that it was Pine Lakes representatives who contacted us. “They are keen to celebrate their 100th anniversary with a U.S. Hickory Open and we are very happy to help them do so,” Brown said. “They have been totally obliging about our needs. There is no doubt we’ll have a great time as their guests.”

The USHO Site Selection Committee also toured a course possibility in Wilmington, N.C., and, though tempting, the course lacked the desired facilities to host our membership.

Myrtle Beach is easily accessible from most areas of the U.S. and abounds with hotels and restaurants. As the USHO Committee and the Carolina host committee begin the process of arranging the myriad details, we’ll be sure to keep everyone up-to-date.
