Support for Event Organizers
The Society of Hickory Golfers recognizes and supports hickory golf playing groups on a worldwide basis. Whether a group consists of just a handful of friends gathering for an annual match or a well-established regional organization conducting multiple events each season, every group contributes to preserving and advancing the traditions of our unique game.
How Do We Support You?
Worldwide Tournament Calendar
To better promote the game, we collect worldwide tournament information and share it in this consolidated location, which is sortable by date, region and country. We also provide tournament write-ups and post them in our worldwide news and events rolls up.
In addition through our Wee Nip journal, the Society showcases regional groups, their players and their seasonal events. The Wee Nip is the Society’s chief means to share the stories of our passion – the enjoyment of hickory golf in all its many aspects. All SoHG members are welcome to contribute.
Hickory Handicaps
For our members, we maintain a hickory handicap are where they can post their rounds and look up handicap information of ther members. Future expansion includes coverage of Gutta Percha and Featherie play, as well as a worldwide order of merit ranking system.
Event Promotion and Materials
One of the most important ways we promote the growth of the game is through our communications channels, which include our website, our social media channels, our twice yearly periodical ‘Wee Nip’ and our monthly email newsletter. Moreover, we collect and post upcoming tournament information in our website, and share tournament write-ups after play. We share ball markers for all tournaments to request. For SoHG Affiate and SoHG Partner groups, we even provide posters for display at tournaments, tournament medals and more.
Hickory Hole in One Registry
Perhaps the only more rewarding experience in golf than a ‘hole in one’ is a making hickory hole in one. We collect stories and share them in our Hickory Holes in One Registry.
Guidelines & Best Practices Sharing
Another way we help grow the game is by collecting and disseminating tournament guidelines and best practices. On our website, we maintain guidelines for hickory play, recently expanded to include sections on gutta play and featherie play. Moreover, we frequently field and answer questions posted by tournament hosts, such as ‘what learnings can you share about successfully running a club swap during a tournament.’
News and Information
The Society not only posts upcoming tournament news on its website calendar, but shares post-tournament write-ups after play. Press on hickory golf from around the world is shared on our website. Individual and group news is shared as it becomes available. The Society keeps the world of hickory golf connected.
Resource Directories
The Society maintains directories of club repair professionals, club rental service and other hickory golf support services. In addition, our directory of worldwide playing groups allows you to keep in touch with hickory golfers throughout the globe.”
Development Grants
The Society is piloting a program of modest annual grants to aid hickory groups in the promotion of our unique support. The program grants funds to SoHG Affiliate & SoHG Partner playing groups to augment their activities, and may be used for trophies, marketing or other uses to encourage and support hickory golf. More details will be shared shortly.
