Hickory Golf News

The Championship Series for 2013/2014 is complete. Points won by players have been posted to the website, under “Tournaments.” The 2013/2014 season was an abbreviated one of four events as the SoHG has shifted the season to begin with the Mid Pines Hickory Open and end with the U.S. Hickory Open. In this way, it is hoped, the overall winners and medals can be awarded at Mid Pines without undue delay.

The 2014/2015 Championship Series will return to five events, beginning with the 2014 Mid Pines Hickory Open and ending with the 2015 U.S. Hickory Open.

The new International Hickory Cup (IHC) also has a season-long competition for points that determine qualifiers for the North American squad. Qualifying season begins with the Belvedere Hickory Open and extends through the Southern 4-Ball Hickory Championship. This schedule allows team captains the time necessary to notify qualifiers, assemble the team, and complete travel arrangements.

The inaugural IHC will take place this October 2014 in conjunction with the World Hickory Open in Carnoustie, Scotland. The IHC matches, based on Ryder Cup-style foursomes and singles, will likely follow the WHO.

SoHG members who did not qualify for the IHC team are nonetheless encouraged to experience the fun of playing in the WHO, and arrange other golf at the fine venues that Scotland offers.
