Master club repairman John Henry Williams of Bend, Ore., is known throughout the hickory golf world as a superb club repairman whose expert craftsmanship has few equals.

Clients throughout the world send him clubs for restoration, refurbishment, repair… three ‘r’s, so it would seem. Each club that leaves his shop can be struck, or displayed, with pride and confidence. Now retired, Williams has found great joy in his workshop and invites others to visit and share the experience while picking up valuable club repair techniques.

He is generous with his time and often pens an article for the Society’s Wee Nip journal about repair techniques. Williams is a superstar of sorts in the Northwest Hickory Players regional group, though that’s an accolade he might abjure. But for a society that relies upon clubs of sometimes a century in age, Williams and his skills are in high demand.

Local media outlets throughout the world are always looking for stories to interest their communities. So it was with the Central Oregon Daily who sent reporter Peyton Thomas to learn about Williams and join him for round, to learn what this hickory golf business is all about.
