Nov. 14-15
Meadowcreek GC
Charlottesville, Va.
Originally scheduled for early June, the venue for the first annual Gutty Gopher was still closed due to the COVID pandemic and so the event has been postponed to the weekend of Nov. 14-15, Saturday and Sunday, again in Charlottesville at the public course, Meadowcreek. Details on registration, cost, lodging, etc. will come out about September-October timeframe. We expect about $290 for three rounds (including practice round), three meals, and awards. More will be announced on the VaHGA website https://www.vahickorygolf.com/ as the time approaches. Weather will be unpredictable at this time. Travel will be unpredictable for a while. We are hoping that both will cooperate.
This gutty ball event is sponsored by the Virginia Hickory Golfers Association and hosted by the ever cheerful Mr. Jim Clawson. The format is 36 holes of medal play with replica gutty balls supplied by McIntyre Golf. Divisions of play include Open, Senior (65), and Ladies; all with gross and net of SoHG handicap. The Open Division plays the Park ball, Senior and Ladies play either Vardon (bramble) or Braid.
All the holes at Meadowcreek, save one, allow for the running game, i.e. running your ball to the green. As well, Meadowcreek offers spectacular views of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smoky Mountains.
