Temple Terrace Golf and Country Club

The Temple Terrace Golf and Country Club opened in 1922, designed by noted architect Tom Bendelow. At the time, its 6,400 yards was described by the Tampa Tribune as a “brute of a course.” It was a stout test for the hickory clubs of the day. The golf is course is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, one of only three such in the state.
The U.S. Professional Hickory Golf Championship is sponsored by the United States Golf Teachers Federation and open to all golf professionals, male and female. Players compete for the same $5,000 prize fund associated with the original Florida Open won by Leo Diegel. Also included is a division for amateur golfers.
The event is included in the overall Temple Terrace Hickory Heritage weekend comprised of a hickory scramble followed by a cocktail ball and dinner on Saturday; the Mike Stevens Golf Challenge on Sunday, which is Ryder Cup style match play with teams set up to challenge teams from the Florida Hickory Golfers; and the U.S. Professional Amateur Hickory Championship on Monday.
