Grenadier Island in Canada’s beautiful 1000 islands has a 9-hole course designed by A.W. Tillinghast in 1927. The course hosted a hickory event on June 26/27 that was attended by SoGH and Gof Historical Society of Canada, including Roger Hill of Grand Rapids, Mich. Others came from as a far as Montreal and Thailand.

As the only way to the island is by boat, participants were treated to a cruise through the islands to the course, enjoying the post-game together and food. The course met all the expectations of a hickory course.

Gord Thomas of Kingston won the gross with 79, and Paula Mclean was the net winner. Gord was immediately instructed to join both golf societies!

Grenadier Island, as part of the Thousand Islands, is part of a  UNESCO heritage protected property. Besides getting to socialize with Eastern Ontario players (obviously most important) the area is spectacular and well worth a visit. The weekend at Grenadier, the 1000 Island cruises and the GlenHouse, as host, could not have been more wonderful.

It was a trip to the past.
