Hickory Golf News

Mike Stevens, director of the Florida Hickory Golfers, reports on the annual outing at Sara Bay Country Club:
Although hot as usual this time of year it was a great outing on July 26 at Sara Bay Country Club in Sarasota. Originally named Whitfield Estates CC, it was the home of the first 36 holes for the match between Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen that took place in 1926. Will Peterson, back from golf in the Northeast and Midwest, continued his dominance with 34 points. He also teamed with Rich Grula to win the team title at plus 4. Yours truly  followed with 28 points. Not bad for the first time back after open heart surgery, although I did play from the forward tees since a full swing is not in the cards just yet. Great to see Jeff Shafer and Bernie Alessandrini back after a bit of hiatus. Big thanks to the staff at Sara Bay for welcoming us to their facility as they celebrate their 100 years in operation.
