The 36th Heart of America was played under wonderful conditions on the Field Club in Omaha, July 27, 28. More than 56 golfers from around the Midwest and beyond came to the event, one of the oldest hickory golf events in the country, long a fixture of the Golf Collectors Society. Those in the Open Division were vying to get their name on that handsome trophy. The fellow who wanted it most was Roger Andrews of Jenks, Okla., who carded a two-day 147. One of the most successful of the modern era of hickory golfers, Andrews adds the trophy to a long resumé of victories that include a few on the Championship Series of the Society of Hickory Golfers. The Open Reserve winner was Chris Palar with a net 132. In the Senior Open, with 151, the victory went to Richard Bullock of Clearwater, Fla.,  a teaching pro whose love of hickory golf few can equal. Dr. Kevin Cawley took the Senior Reserve with a net 132. In the Statesman Division, George Penry took honors with a 201/net 159. And for the ladies, the champion was Cindy Austin (whose score was unavailable to this writer). The winning scramble team was composed of Ron Luster, Jim Brown, Scott Hoisington, and Joe Engle.

   It is reported that the 2014 Heart of America will be played over the Grand View Golf Course in Des Moines, Iowa.
