Hickory Golf News

This year’s Spokane Hickory Open, held Oct. 2-3, attracted 19 players from the surrounding Northwest. The fall weather was beautiful, a perfect complement to the beautifully manicured and sloped greens of Indian Canyon GC.

Special thanks to the professional staff and restaurant staff for their friendly service and great food.

The opening day scores saw a 74 posted in the Open Division by Jim von Lossow, followed by our new hickory professional, Charlie Thurston with a 77. Charlie is the teaching professional at Fircrest Golf Club near Tacoma, Wash.

The Senior Division Gross was led on Day 1 by Peter Yagi, of Seattle, with an 81, closely followed by John Quickstad (82) and Martin Pool (83).  Net First round leaders were John Quickstad (68), Floyd Lockie (70), Peter Yagi (70), and Martin Pool (70).

Statesman Division Gross on Day 1 leaders were, Tom Driscoll (80), Paul Murphy (86),  Net Division Tom Driscoll (70), Paul Murphy (73), John Wise (74).

Ladies Division consisted of our stalwart players Sandy Bucher and Roberta Robbins, both medal winners.

Medals were awarded to each Champion and Runner-up.

Tee gifts and a Daily “Deuce Pot” (par three birdies) were included in the entry.

Deuce Pot winners on Day 1 were Steve Henneuse, Tom Driscoll, and Erick Keating, who won  $60 each. On Day 2, the winners were Tom Driscoll, Martin Pool, Sandy Bucher, and Dennis Scott, all who won $50 each.

As for our many NWHP players and friends who could not attend, we look forward to your return.

We are looking forward to Hickory Golf in 2022 and extend a warm welcome to new and old players alike.  See you in October 2022 in Spokane !
