Johnson finally prevails

The Champion Golfer for 2014 is Tom Johnson of Tallmadge, Ohio. Tom won the National Hickory Championship with a nail-biting sudden-victory playoff finish that ended on the fourth extra hole. Johnson was tied with three-time winner Mike Stevens of Tampa, Fla.
Always a contender, Johnson had finished in the top five on numerous occasions over his 16-year NHC career. The 16th start proved to be the best. Third place went to Steve Simer of Madison, Wisc.
The Reserve Division (net) winner was Stephen Busic who claimed his third trophy. This year, however, he will proudly take home the Ralph Livingston III Cup, the traveling trophy that was introduced last year. The women’s championship was won by junior intern Gillian Alexander, of Rice’s Landing, Pa., who recorded the lowest 36-hole women’s score in NHC history. John Roth won low net in the Sporting Division, Frank Rosenzweig got Sporting low gross.
