Hickory Golf News

On Aug. 6 an intimate group of well-dressed men of the Metropolitan Hickory Society met for the second annual Squire golf outing, named in honor of Gene “The Squire” Sarazen who defeated Walter Hagen in the 1923 PGA Championship.

The event was held at the Pelham Country Club where the gentlemen battled a not inconsiderable summer heat wave. The course, however, was in superb condition. Designed by Devereux Emmet, the course offered plenty of architectural intrigue. It presented quite a challenge despite measuring just under 5,100 yards. Former tour pro Dave Leveque shot a 75 to handily to take home the gross victory, while Jared Paletti claimed the first reserve spot with his customary steady play.

1st Gross: Dave Leveque (75)
2nd Gross: Brian Schuman (89)
1st Reserve: Jared Paletti (75)
2nd Reserve: Bill Martin (78)
