Hickory Golf News

Nov. 30, 2018
In a close vote, David Brown, Bill Wardwell, and Jim Wilhelm were elected to three-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2019. They will replace outgoing board members Bill Geisler, Bill Reed, and Rich Schmidt.

Of the nearly 550 SoHG voting members, 166 votes were cast, about 31 percent. Brown received 147 votes, Wardwell 128, Wilhelm 113, and Krupkin 92.

Brown, of Omaha, Neb., owns and operates the McIntyre Golf Ball Co. He is an orthopedic surgeon and a former SoHG board member who served as president from 2015-16. He was instrumental in updating the SoHG by-laws and in managing the SoHG’s transition to a new website.

Wardwell, of Turners Falls, Mass., is a co-founder of the Hickory Golfers of Massachusetts and is fond of gutty (pre-1900) golf. He is a champion of both the National Hickory Championship and the CB Macdonald gutty tournaments.

Wilhelm, of Gundy, Woodstock, Ontario, is an investment advisor and, like Wardwell, a fan of pre-1900 play. A hickory player for more than a dozen years, Wilhelm enjoys the camaraderie the sport fosters and looks forward to promoting hickory golf through work on the SoHG board.

Krupkin, an attorney in Richardson, Texas, fell just shy in votes but remains enthusiastic in his support for the SoHG and hickory golf. He is especially active in Dallas and Austin hickory golf activities and says he’ll continue to advance the game as far and wide as possible.
