The Course at Pine Lakes CC
Pine Lakes was Myrtle Beach’s first golf course, opening in 1927. Originally known as Ocean Forest Country Club, the course survived the Great Depression and was renamed Pine Lakes in 1946, helping jump-start the area’s emergence into the game’s most popular destination.
The storied layout was designed by Robert White, a native of St. Andrews, Scotland, and its integrity remains intact today, particularly on a back nine that plays along land featuring considerable undulation. Located less than ½-mile from the Atlantic Ocean, the par 70 plays in the shadow of the area’s beachfront skyline and tests golfers with an unforgettable collection of par 4s.
Complementing the on-course experience is the club’s rich history, highlighted by a clubhouse that is part of the National Registry of Historic Places. Pine Lakes was the birthplace of Sports Illustrated and the club is home to the Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame, adding to the fun of a day at the Granddaddy.
PIne Lakes underwent a comprehensive greens and bunker restoration project in 2021, an effort that assured its place near the top of the Myrtle Beach market for years to come. Pine Lakes is part of the Prime Times Founders Collection, joining 20 other courses that represent the best of what Myrtle Beach has to offer.

The PGA of America appointed Robert White, of St. Andrews, as the first PGA President. A former schoolteacher turned head professional at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, N.Y., White was a multi-talented man and his experience enabled him to bring people together. He also was a skilled clubmaker and co-founder of the Professional Golf Company in suburban Chicago. When White emigrated to the U.S. in 1894, he pursued agronomy and began laying out golf courses.
White became the first turf expert among the professional greenkeepers of his time. By 1947, he was one of 13 founders of the American Society of Golf Course Architects.
